Tim Robards has confirmed he will return to Neighbors for his star-studded finale.

The long-running Australian soap opera is being axed after 37 years on the air after its UK broadcast partner Channel 5 said it would no longer fund the production.

The 39-year-old former bachelor revealed on Hit100.9’s Dan & Christie that he jumped at the chance to return because he felt his character had never really been closed.

Tim played Pierce Greyson on the soap for two years from 2018.

His role was due to last until 2020 but was cut short because his wife, Anna Heinrich, became pregnant with their first child and he struggled with the weekly commute from his home in Sydney to Melbourne, where Neighbors is filmed .

The chiropractor told the radio show: ‘It felt like a break and no closure.

“It was nice to come back and have a closure and see everyone again, say a good goodbye and finish this character that I never got to do.”

Tim also shared details about what it was like to kiss his co-star Christie Hayes, who played Pierce’s love interest, Ebony Buttrose.

He revealed: “Christie would always say ‘I’m so sorry to eat a curry’ or something, you know, constantly apologizing for the bad breath!”

‘It’s never been so bad.’

Speaking about his acting career in March, Tim said he was going to leave soap operas behind and focus on success in Hollywood.

“I would love to be James Bond. I also love everything Christian Bale does,’ he told The Sunday Telegraph’s Stellar magazine.

‘Neighbors is a soap opera so it’s a certain format. Everyone’s larger than life, so it’s not necessarily the most realistic acting and storylines, so I’m really looking forward to doing things where I can scale it down a bit, and that’s not is not so soapy.

A handful of stars from yesteryear will return for the Neighbors final, including Olympia Valance (Paige Smith), Kylie Minogue (Charlene Mitchell) and Jason Donovan (Scott Robinson).
