“And my politically correct answer is I’m really proud of Will for apologizing and standing up for what he believes in and also speaking his truth,” she added.

“And here’s the one thing I’ll say, in this industry most of the time we get the end of a long conversation,” the TV star added.

She added that “the end of the tail will end with an ‘ooh! moment or a word or something, and we take it out of context, and we blow it up.

“We don’t know the rest of the story. And knowing that there’s a long story and he was standing up for his wife at the time – of course there could have been other times to do that – but thank you for making this award show very interesting ! she added.

Some have speculated that there has been tension between Smith and Rock since the latter hosted the Oscars in 2016, and made jokes about his boycott of the show that year due to a lack of of diversity during the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.

‘Jada said she wouldn’t come, protests. I was like, “Isn’t she on a TV show?” Jada is going to boycott the Oscars? Jada boycotts the Oscars, it’s like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I was not invited! Rock joked.

He also hinted that she was upset her husband wasn’t nominated for his work in the 2015 film Concussion.

“It’s not fair that Will was this good and didn’t get nominated. You’re right. It’s also not fair that Will got $20 million for Wild Wild West, okay? Rock joked.

Either way, the tension boiled over on Oscar Sunday when Rock turned to Jada, sported a shaved head from alopecia, and said, “GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see it. ‘, apparently mocking her hairstyle which resembled Demi Moore’s look in the 1997 film GI Jane.

As Smith appeared to be laughing at the joke, Jada was clearly not happy, glancing at the joke, and seconds later Smith approached the stage and slapped Rock in the face.

Smith apologized Monday on Instagram, saying, “Violence in any form is toxic and destructive.” My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of place and I was wrong. I’m embarrassed and my actions weren’t indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.
