Lamb ad includes Western Australia in ‘international’ campaign


An “international” campaign spruiking Australian lamb in global hotspots like New York and Paris has also made landfall in Perth, in a cheeky swipe at Premier Mark McGowan’s hard border.

The billboard campaign is a follow-up to Meat and Livestock Australia’s traditional summer lamb advertisement, which this year portrayed Australia as a “lost country” following it’s long border closure during the pandemic.

Now, billboards are being unveiled in New York, Paris, London, Auckland, and, yes, Perth, to bring the gospel of Australian lamb to the world.

“Hey Mark, come visit Australia some time. We’ll fire up the barbie,” reads the Perth board.

But he wasn’t the only “world leader” to get his nose tweaked by the campaign.

The French-Australian submarine row was referenced on the Paris billboard with a “personal message” from Prime Minister Scott Morrison to French President Emmanuel Macron.

“G’day Manny, let’s forget the past. BBQ at my place? Kisses, Scotty,” the board reads.

While the New York display references US President Joe Biden’s apparent momentary forgetfulness over Mr Morrison’s name during the AUKUS announcement that started the submarine fracas in the first place.

“Hey Joe, BBQ at my place. Love, that ‘fella Down Under’,” it read.

Even the English cricket team, comprehensively steamrolled during their recent Ashes tour, copped a little sting: “Hi England, cooking lamb over some ashes if you’re keen?”
