Kate Ferdinand has confirmed the loss of her unborn second child with husband Rio, just 12 weeks after a previously unannounced pregnancy.
The former TV personality, 31, shared the news in a short post Wednesday night with Instagram followers, many of whom were unaware of her pregnancy.
Kate, already a parent to 20-month-old son Cree at Manchester United and English legend Rio, revealed she was hospitalized after a routine scan failed to detect the baby’s heartbeat.

She wrote: ‘The last time I was in this hospital I was given Cree, but this time it was because our baby had no heartbeat during our 12 week scan and I had to have surgery.
“We were so excited and are planning a space for our new baby in our family, we couldn’t wait to share our news with all of you but unfortunately sometimes life just doesn’t go the way we plan.
“So much to say, but somehow I can’t find the words. Absolutely devastated and heartbroken…but I couldn’t be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies who came through the door when we got home.”
In June, Kate is said to have been “torn” over her decision to have another child with Rio, after they welcomed their son Cree.
A source revealed to Heat magazine at the time: “Kate really struggled with having a newborn. But as the kids get older, she starts to miss the baby stage.
“If she has another child, she doesn’t want there to be a huge age difference. But at the same time, she feels like she’s just getting her life back.

Kate started dating footballer Rio in 2017 and they got married in Turkey in 2019.
They welcomed their first son together, Cree, in December 2020 via emergency C-section – with Kate describing the ‘traumatic birth’ on Instagram.
Alongside a photo of her bruised body, she explained, “I wanted to share this with you. This is me… and I want to add that this is a much better version of me than the last 10 days.
“After an emergency cesarean section and a bit of traumatic delivery, I was completely wiped out.”

“The happiness was overwhelming, but so were the tears and emotions, I feel like I can’t do what I need to do with Cree because I haven’t been able to consistently change or feed him. I feel all kinds of guilt, for Cree, Rio and that I can’t do what I normally do for the kids.
“It’s a whirlwind I just didn’t expect…but at the same time the most perfect whirlwind.”
The former reality TV star is also the stepmother of the retired soccer player’s three children from his first marriage to Rebecca Ellison, who died of breast cancer in 2015 at the age of 34.
She admitted she’s worried about the “big kids” — Lorenz, 15, Tate, 13, and 11-year-old Tia, adding that the love for a stepchild is “even more intense at times.”

According to The Sun, the podcast host detailed the “instant love” with your biological offspring before adding, “I feel like a stepchild’s love is even more intense sometimes because you’ve worked so hard to get there and I find that I am probably exaggerating everything.
“I’m so much more concerned about the big kids. There is a different kind of worry that comes with children who have lost a parent.”
The reality star began dating footballer Rio Ferdinand in 2017 – two years after Rebecca died following a battle with breast cancer.

She discussed raising her blended family on the Parenting Hell podcast, describing the changing dynamics with Rio and Rebecca’s three children.
Kate insisted she never wanted to take their mother’s place and that learning about Rebecca has made her a better parent.
She said: ‘Their mother is and always will be a big part of our lives. I would never want the kids to think I’m the part of [Rebecca].
“I am a mother figure to them, but their mother is their mother. She is part of our lives. We talk about her all the time.
“It’s very strange, but I feel like I know her.”
