Jenny McCarthy defends her reaction to Rudy Giuliani on ‘The Masked Singer’: ‘He wasn’t there to campaign’

Jenny McCarthy addressed Rudy Giuliani’s appearance on The masked singerduring a conversation with Andy Cohen on Wednesday . Donald Trump’s former lawyer sang on the reality competition show last spring. When he was “unmasked,” panelists Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke walked offstage in protest while McCarthy remained.

“You know, like everyone who gets exposed, I [was] completely shocked,” McCarthy said. “You know, everyone is in their own wheelhouse with how they deal with their shock. The fact that it was a political figure who polarized to half the country was hard… I’m from the Midwest. I have plenty of family who [didn’t] have a problem with it.”

Giuliani is a New York attorney who has been charged with ethics by the Washington DC Bar. According to the NY Bar, Giuliani used “false and misleading statements” to try to undo the 2020 presidential election.

Despite his controversial appearance, McCarthy supported him like any other celebrity.

“I checked in with myself at that point and said I’m going to be a pro and I’m going to hope this show brings both sides together,” McCarthy said of the moment. “There has to be a place where everyone can enjoy themselves. That Rudy Giuliani was there for his grandchildren. He was not there to campaign. I was like, I’ll stand here and finish the show and at least give him that.”

Watch live what’s happening with Andy Cohen aired from sunday to thursday on Bravo TV.
