The striker, 35, combined with Harvey Barnes twice in the second half to set the Foxes on course for victory over the already-relegated Canaries, with James Maddison also on the scorehseet in the comfortable 3-0 win. The result reflected Leicester’s dominance and lifted them into the top half of the Premier League table with three games left to play, against Watford, Chelsea and Southampton.
Jamie Vardy’s brilliant display at the King Power Stadium came a matter of hours after Rebekah was in the stand at the High Court to give evidence in her libel case against Coleen Rooney, the wife of Manchester United and England legend Wayne.
The dispute between Rebekah, 40, and Coleen, 36, surfaced in October 2019 when the latter declared she had carried out a month-long “sting operation” to catch the former leaking “false stories” about her private life. Coleen claimed Rebekah owned an Instagram account from which three fake stories were leaked to The Sun , leading to what has been coined the ‘ Wagatha Christie ‘ saga.
Rebekah denies the allegations and subsequently sued her accuser for damages for libel over the ‘untrue and unjustified defamatory attack’. On Tuesday, the pair met in court as the trial began following months of preliminary hearings.
The first day featured claims, counter-claims and an account of a sexual encounter, while Rebekah told how she felt suicidal and feared losing her unborn baby after a “chilling” phone call from Coleen.
However, the barrister for Coleen – who arrived at court with Wayne, the Derby County manager – described his client’s actions as something from a “good detective story”. The case is set to resume at 10:30am on Thursday with Rebekah likely to finishing giving evidence in the early afternoon.
Meanwhile, Jamie Vardy drew lavish praise from Brendan Rodgers after taking his tally to 14 goals for the season with his double in the East Midlands. “I thought he worked so hard tonight,” the Leicester boss told BBC Sport of the Englishman.
“In some of the earlier games, he wasn’t quite at that fitness level. I kept him on to see if he could get a hat-trick but it was not to be! You’ve got to be careful with expectation. He’ll be 36 in January. He’s not going to be running around like he’s 22. He was back at a high level tonight, which was great.”
