Elton John recently appeared frail as he was pictured in a wheelchair at an airport in Germany ahead of his planned pre-recorded Jubilee performance.

The singer, 75, has suffered with multiple ailments in recent years and recently took a  break from his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour due to health issues.

From Covid to undergoing hip surgery and a battle with prostate cancer, TSWT has taken a look back at Elton’s chequered health history in recent years.

The Rocketman star has been using a wheelchair since 2019 after he suffered a sprained ankle.

However, he has not let it stop him from travelling and said from Florence, Italy at the time: ‘Not even a sprained ankle could keep me away from seeing one one of the most beautiful museums in the world.’

In September 2021, Elton announced that he was postponing the European and UK leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour until 2023, after suffering an awkward fall.

The performer said he was in constant pain and it was unlikely that his hip would hold out for the duration of the tour, which is why the decision was made to have hip surgery before getting back on the road.

Back in July 2021, Elton was forced to postpone a selection of dates from his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour again, due to Covid-19.

Fans in Germany who had booked tickets to see Elton perform in September will have to wait until as far as 2023 to see the pop icon live.

The tour, which began in 2018 and is slated to include 309 shows, was due to get back-on-track in Berlin before heading to Munich, Hamburg, Mannheim, and Cologne.

Sir Elton had already rescheduled dates for the tour in March, July and September last year, all because of restrictions surrounding the ongoing pandemic.

The musician cancelled shows in Texas when he tested positive for Covid in January 2021, however he had been vaccinated at the time so was only expecting mild symptoms.

In his 2019 autobiography Me, Elton revealed that he had prostate cancer and was 24 hours from death after catching an infection following surgery.

Elton had been touring South America in 2017 when he had to be rushed home to the UK after feeling ‘worse than I ever had in my life’.

In the book, serialised by the Daily Mail, the star wrote: I was taken to King Edward VII’s Hospital in London, where I had a scan.

‘I was told that my condition was so serious, the hospital didn’t have the equipment to cope with it.

‘I had to be moved to the London Clinic… By 2.30pm, I was on the operating table, having more lymphatic fluid drained – this time from my diaphragm.

‘For two days afterwards, I was in intensive care. When I came round, they told me I’d contracted a major infection in South America, and that they were treating it with massive intravenous doses of antibiotics.’

Elton, who said he had several MRI scans and other procedures, added that his husbad David Furnish was told he was 24 hours from death.

The singer opened up further about the ordeal in an interview with Graham Norton in 2019 where he compared himself to the Bionic Woman.

He said: ‘I literally had to learn to walk again. I was extremely sick. Luckily I survived it. Now I am fine. But there are very few bits of me left!’

‘There is no hair, a pacemaker, there is no tonsils, there is no prostate, there is no appendix. I have had kidney stones.
