“The Coroner has advised Victoria Police that the remains are that of Russell Hill and Carol Clay,” a police statement read.

“As the matter is before the court, we will not be providing any further comment.”

Mr Hill, 74, and Ms Clay, 73, disappeared while camping in the Wonnangatta Valley on March 20, 2020.

Police uncovered human remains while searching for the pair in bushland north of Dargo, nearly 400kms east of Melbourne.

Locals helped bring a large excavator and a bobcat to the remote search site.

The area where the human remains were found is an old gold-mining area known as the Grant Historic Area.

Pilot Greg Lynn has been charged with two counts of murder over the pair’s death.

He has been remanded in custody and will face court in May this year.
